The special judicial committee for bounced cheques in Dubai will start hearing cases in the next two weeks and resolve the issues in record time, said Counsel Bakri Abdullah Hasan, Advisor, Technical Office of the Dubai Public Prosecutor.
"We have finalised the committee structure and will start working in the next two weeks. For instance, around 500 complaints from the Jebel Ali police station have been transferred for hearing," he said on the sidelines of a seminar at the Dubai Judicial Institute.
In November, the Dubai Government established a new judicial committee to deal with bounced cheque cases in the property sector. The committee will settle dispute cases pertaining to bounced cheques irrespective of whether issued by a buyer to a developer or from tenants and beneficiaries of long-term units as per the provisions of Law No7 of 2006 pertaining to property registration in Dubai.
Judgments pronounced by the committee will be decisive and cannot be challenged and will be implemented through the execution department of the Dubai Courts. The decree prevents the Public Prosecution and courts from carrying out any investigation into bounced property cheques or issuing any ruling in this regard until the case is looked into by the committee.
Dubai has issued about 15 real estate laws within three years.
